Ductless Heating Systems
Ductless heating and ductless air conditioning are two sides of the same coin. A ductless heating system, also called a ductless mini-split, is one of the fastest growing technologies in the heating and air conditioning space.
Ductless heating systems use the same technology that air conditioning systems use to take heat and humidity out of the air, only it does it in reverse. These systems are called heat pumps. Heat pumps have always been popular in the southern parts of the country because they were capaple of heating a house, but only when the temperature outside was no lower than 30 degrees. Obviously, this wouldn’t work in the New England. Over the years, however, the technology has made great strides and is now able to heat houses in colder climates, with some manufacturures claiming the ability to maintain heat even in sub-zero temperatures.
Now, couple the power of a modern heat pump with the convenience and flexibility of a ductless heating system, and you can have the best of both worlds.
Ductless heating systems work very similarly to conventinal heat pumps. Both types of heating have an outside unit (this is the actual heat pump) and both types have an indoor unit called an air handler – but therein lies the difference. With a conventional heat pump, the air handler usually resides on in the basement or attic of a house. The air handler then blows the hot air around the house via a network of ducts.
With ductless mini-splits, the air handler portion is designed to be a lot smaller, hence the term mini-split. So small, in fact, that the entire unit can be hung unobtrusively on a wall. The warm air doesn’t have to come through a network of ducts in order to reach its target room. The mini-split simply blows warm air right into the room where it is installed. Not only is this convenient, it’s efficient.
Not sold yet? Here’s another bonus. All new models of ductless mini-splits provide heating and cooling. This is a nice little feature, whether you decide to use it as a main source of heating and cooling, to supplement your existing heating and cooling system, or as an emergency back up in case your primary source of heat or A/C fails. No matter what you decide, it’s nice to have options.
We service and install many makes and models of ductless mini-splits, such as Fujitsu, Mitsubishi, Daiken, and LG. –and we always give out free estimates.
We also don’t charge to talk on the phone, so give us a call, we would be glad to answer any of your questions.
